strengthen your immunity

Have you ever lurked over the factors that give our bodies a built-in resistance to diseases?

Ever thought about what enables us to remain healthy and unaffected when we are under siege of a pandemic?

Have you ever seen someone who is constantly prone to infections and got health issues that never seem to settle down?

Right, dealing with it all can be a tough call.! When you have to carry around a wallet full of prescriptions every day or when you have to visit the doctor every week!

You may have observed others struggling or might have experienced it yourself.!

The call is on our immune system.!!

What immunity actually entails?

The ability of the body to defend itself against pathogens that could cause diseases is known as immunity. It strikes the ideal balance between the body’s natural instincts for survival during a pathogenic onslaught and for the adaptation to external stress.

So thinking if there exist multiple kinds of immunological reactions..?

Yes. There is! The ability of the body to fight off pathogenic agents is either provided by innate reactions, or the natural immunity that is present at birth, or by the body’s acquired immunity, which is the ability to fight off specific foreign organisms like bacteria, fungi, viruses, etc.

Innate immunity is the first line of defense against all infections while acquired immunity is the most powerful immune mechanism which gets activated during a foreign body attack. Both are equally important like the two sides of a coin.

So this is how our resilience works.!

The immune system recognizes possible foreign substances as antigens whenever a foreign invasion occurs in the body. Following antigen detection, B lymphocytes (white blood cells) create antibodies that are specific to the infection and destroy it. This in turn causes reactions in the body that aid in dealing with reactions related to pathogen destruction and homeostasis restoration.

So where do the classics stand amidst these.?

Immunity and Ayurveda.

In the ancient discipline of Ayurveda, it is advised to promote the habits of good diet and regimen to combat the ailments that appear every now and then. This is commonly referred to as “Hita aahara vihaara seva,” which should also be appropriate with the timings of a day known as Dinacharya and according to various seasons known as Ritucharya.!

Central Idea of Ojas :

“The Fountain of Youth.”

There are several reasons why our bodies could become vulnerable to various diseases. Seasonal, physiological, and pathological factors all fall within this category. So, maintaining our body’s right resilience is crucial if we want to handle these erratic reactions.

According to Ayurveda, Ojas is the core and essence of all body tissues that bring together the body’s diverse systems to fend off diseases-causing external illnesses. Ojas have a direct impact on balancing the Tridoshas, the bio-fire that aids in healthy metabolic processes, and the body’s resistance to stress from the environment and over the main component assisting the body’s defense mechanisms, known as Vyadhikshamatva.!

Vyadhikshamatva: The great physical resiliency of the body.

Ayurveda, an enlightened science, attributes the body’s exceptional resilience to the immune system’s inherent feedback responses. This is the point where the idea of Vyadhikshamatva becomes clear. The ability of the body to recover from infections is an innate strength and this needs to be maintained and strengthened.

So, here’s how to raise your immunity naturally with Ayurveda.!

NATURAL FOODS TO BOOST IMMUNITY

1. Citrus fruits

Why…? because they contain a lot of vitamin C. And vitamin C must be obtained through the foods we consume on a daily basis because the body cannot generate it on its own.!

Ascorbic acid also referred to as vitamin C, is an important agent that protects the body from free radical damage and supports overall health. Citrus fruits include tangerines, oranges, tomatoes, grapefruits, lemons, etc all of which you may find often inside your kitchen drawer..!

Although papaya leaves (tender) may taste bitter, it is known that they increase the number of leukocytes, which in turn helps to strengthen the immunological response. An increase in leukocytes will benefit the body’s phagocytic functions, help to reduce allergic reactions, and improve cell health.

The delicate leaves can be boiled with sugar or honey, peppermint, and other ingredients to make an immunity-boosting beverage that is healthy and spicy.

5. Milk with turmeric

Like “Adrak wala chai,” the “Haldi wala doodh” is not unfamiliar to North Indians. The traditional Indian remedy for all health-related questions, haldi doodh, or “golden milk,” demonstrates the efficacy of natural treatments for all of our medical problems.

Depending on what we subject our bodies to, our immune system is strengthened. What we eat and the physical activity we engage in on a regular basis are both important aspects that have an impact on our bodies and mind.
