The heart is one of the most important organs in the body, as we all know. The level of physical protection is unsurprising, given that we cannot exist without a properly functioning heart. However, physical protection isn’t always sufficient to maintain our hearts in good shape. Heart disease is the top cause of death in both men and women around the world, thus the heart is an organ that deserves our attention and care. But this article isn’t about heart disease; it’s about the Ayurvedic approach to heart health and ayurvedic medicines for the heart.

The heart is the principal seat of Vata, Pitta, Kapha, and Ojas (the subtle essence of vitality and immunity), and it controls a variety of internal body channels (Srotas). The subtle body, which pervades and informs the physical body, extends beyond the physical form which is more energetic and is also strongly integrated with the heart. As a result, the heart serves as a vital crossroads for the subtle body’s (Nadis) pathways, and it is intimately linked to the Heart Chakra.

Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are all considered to reside in the heart. This indicates that the state of each of the doshas can have an impact on our heart health, as well as the fact that whatever happens in the heart can affect Vata, Pitta, and Kapha potentially throughout the body.

The three channels that are rooted in the heart are described briefly below:

Manovaha Srotas – The mind’s channel, is responsible for thinking, feeling, discernment, memory, and communication and is found throughout the body.

Pranavaha Srotas – The respiratory channel, is responsible for circulating prana (life-force energy) throughout the body and is also linked to thought, emotions, and connection with the higher self.

Rasavaha Srotas – The lymph and plasma channel, is in charge of giving refined nutrition and nutrients to every cell and tissue in the body.

Heart care ayurvedic medicines include –

Arjuna – Arjuna is an excellent cardiotonic plant. The bark is a useful part of heart care. It can be taken with warm milk or warm water.

Amalaki – Amalaki is a rejuvenating herb that is well recognized as one of the three constituents in the Triphala. Amalaki is a highly concentrated source of antioxidants that is very nourishing to the body’s tissues and supports the correct function of the heart. It also helps to improve digestion and activate Agni without aggravating Pitta.

Ginger – Because it stimulates healthy circulation, vasodilation, and sweating, ginger is beneficial to the heart and circulatory system. Ginger also helps to clear the body’s subtle and gross channels by igniting Agni, and burning Ama (toxins). Fresh ginger can be added to meals or utilized to produce herbal tea.

Garlic – garlic is effective to reduce levels of cholesterol and is the best ayurvedic medicine for heart blockage. Garlic lowers cholesterol levels, potentially reducing the risk of heart disease. The drug can reduce both total and LDL cholesterol. Garlic supplements appear to lower total and LDL cholesterol by roughly 10%–15% in people with high cholesterol.

Ashwagandha – Ashwagandha or winter cherry is a wonder herb that helps to relax the mind and body while also strengthening the cardiac muscles.
